If It Was Don Jr.’s Laptop Would the Media Care?

This just in.

President Donald Trump was in line to take a kickback from a foreign government!

His son, Donald Trump Jr., who runs the family’s real estate empire and does not serve in government, was found to be trading on the family name during multimillion-dollar negotiations with said foreign country. The plan was for his father to get 10% of the final deal.

Trump Jr. has no experience in the field in which he was negotiating. It is clear foreign operatives were looking for a quid pro quo: make the son of a powerful man rich and happy and expect favors in return.

Meanwhile, other Trump family members, also not serving in government but certainly cashing in on their famous relative’s name, have been enriching themselves in questionable ways and have reaped millions of dollars.

If Trump Jr’s Laptop Held Incriminating Evidence Would Media Care?

None of this is true, of course, but don’t you know if it were there would certainly be multiple investigations launched and politicians like Congressman Adam Schiff, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senator Chuck Schumer posturing before cameras shouting about the need to get to the truth! Impeachment would be back on the table.

But the shoe is now on the other political foot. The facts listed above are allegations about former Vice President Joe Biden and his troubled son, Hunter. Charges that stem from information that was found on an abandoned laptop, left at a Delaware repair shop with Hunter’s cell phone number as the callback contact.

Biden’s surviving son has long had problems with addiction, fidelity and finding a job that matched his unknown skills. In the inebriated blur that has been his life Hunter has been photographed in very unsober and undressed states and he fathered a child with a stripper from Arkansas. He was dating his brother’s widow at the time. Hunter denied paternity but a DNA test proved he lied.

Hunter Biden Has Led a Troubled Life – wikimedia

As the sins of the father should not be visited on a son the same should hold true the other way. Children often disappoint their parents and Hunter’s reckless behavior should not be heaped on Joe Biden’s shoulders. However, the former Vice President should be held to his word. He has repeatedly said, “I’ve never discussed business” with Hunter. Really? Then why was the senior Biden apparently in line – according to emails on that laptop – for a 10% windfall on Hunter’s deal with a Chinese firm? What about Hunter introducing his VP Dad to a Ukrainian businessman with whom he had lucrative dealings? Why did the supremely unqualified Hunter get $3.5 million dollars from the richest woman in Russia while his father served as Vice President? What were the expected quid pro quos?

I write about this now because so many “legitimate” news organizations are not. The public should be outraged about the inequity of media coverage. All presidential candidates should be investigated with equal vigor. Where are the Investigative reporters for the New York Times, Washington Post, NBC, ABC, CBS or CNN? Nowhere, that’s where.

If Joe Biden wins the presidency will Hunter have a role in government? If he remains in the private sector who will police his activities to make sure shady deals with foreign entities don’t continue?

There have been reports that as many as five members of the Biden family have cashed in on their ties to the former Senator turned Vice President, including another brother, a sister and a son-in-law. Joe Biden says he’s never discussed business with any of his relatives. Really?

Last year Politico published an eye-opening investigative report about younger brother James Biden’s takeover of a New York based global hedge fund and his boast that, “We’ve got people all around the world who want to invest in Joe Biden.” The Veep’s brother was confident that since wealthy foreigners could not legally donate to Joe Biden’s campaign they would be “in a line of 747’s filled with cash ready to invest in this company.” What was the expected quid pro quo there?

Mainly it is the New York Post and FOX News digging into the laptop story, reporting that the FBI has possession of the computer and is, apparently, investigating. Senate committees plan to hold hearings. With the election looming why isn’t the mainstream media jumping on this story? I smell a quid pro quo.

    Dear Diane,

Thank you so much for your article published in the Albuquerque Journal today. You are spot on, and I am so disturbed that the American media is no longer reporting all of the news. We are becoming like many foreign countries where only one side is reported and much of it is propaganda. The American people can no longer believe what we hear or read.

Do you have any suggestions on how we might get involved to stop this terribly dangerous trend?

    Thank you very much!

for you doing the right thing to report on this. I also appreciate the

    Ms. Dimond:

I read you columns with interest and usually satisfaction. I was a little surprised to read your column in the October 24, 2020 Albuquerque Journal about the laptop alleged to have belonged to Hunter Biden.

Although I will admit that I haven’t seen every detail about this situation, the ones I have seen reek of a scam. The timing, in particular: just enough for the details to get out, but not enough to investigate or verify any facts; the logistics: Hunter Biden lives nowhere near where the laptop was found and the laptop was apparently abandoned; the individuals involved: Rudy Guiliani and Steven Bannon, two individuals for whom the truth is mostly an abstraction to be discarded at need; and the strange trail of connections that supposedly led to its discovery.

The “proof,” in the form of a letter and the suggestion of an inappropriate meeting with Hunter Biden as the go between, is apparently a xeroxed copy that lacks “metadata,” which is the way back to the identity of the sender.

Steven Bannon’s schemes depend on his getting his conspiracies out of the conservative bubble of websites and blogs and out into the mainstream media. For him and Rudy Guiliani, it’s enough if the keywords Biden-laptop-emails-(Hillary)-emails get out to the mainstream.

I am a retired English and AP Language teacher. To me, this looks like a crude attempt to broadcast a set of carefully engineered allegations at a crucial time in what is probably the most important election in the last 100 years. The mainstream media won’t touch this because there is no way to find out if any of it is true. Without the metadata, you have a xeroxed copy of a letter anyone could have written and a conspiracy theory treasure hunt tailored to cast just enough doubt into an election that is rife with strong opinions and controversial outcomes.

Should the mainstream media find some credible proof of where the email letter came from, they would have a responsibility to pursue all the angles of the story. Until they can verify the origin of the letter, they have an even stronger responsibility to withhold publishing any information about it. The same applies to the rest of the “reports” of other activities by members of the Biden family. In these times of instant news, allegations get out faster and keywords are all that the public remembers.

Authentic attribution, not just noting that something was published in another publication, takes time. The New York Post and Fox News are not sources. You appear to be giving them far more credibility than they deserve.

Which is worse, Hunter Biden’s deeds (which may or may not include child rape and Joe Biden’s knowledge), or the mainstream media’s refusal to investigate or cover it? Both are hideous examples of a state that would make George Orwell shiver.

I had my suspicions from a previous op-ed, but this one was the convincing piece. I expect my opinion articles to at least pretend to follow facts and maybe do a little investigating before writing a column. That’s not true here, it reads as if Tucker Carlson or Sean Hannity co wrote the column. I guess you missed the part about the furor at the Wall Street Journal over this issue, and maybe the fact that the New York Post had to import someone from Fox to put a byline on the story because none of their inhouse people would! I will probably gently suggest to my local newspaper that maybe they should look for an op-ed columnist who is a little more centrist!

Thank you Diane (and this newspaper, ABQ. Journal) for having the guts to speak on a topic that the leftist media has refused to acknowledge. The double standard being exhibited in the Hunter Biden computer investigation by our media is a new low (even for them, who gave top cover to Hillary and her email scandal for years). There are several videos posted of Guiliani and the former NYC Commissioner who are reviewing the hard drive clone given to them by the repair shop owner which provides jaw dropping information about what they’ve found thus far (not even 50% of the content reviewed yet). Pay for Play has plagued our state via Bill Richardson; the Hunter Biden scandal, which bleeds into his uncle and his dad, could become the benchmark 21st century scandal. We all know politicians are narcissists and power hungry people by nature – the question is how can the American people remove their ability to make hundreds of millions of dollars on the side at our expense? That is what we must fix..
